Technical FAQs & Helpful Content

Perguntas Frequentes (FAQ)

Tudo o que você precisa saber sobre este instrumento de diagnóstico, procedimentos de calibração e normas técnicas.

01.How does this online decibel meter measure sound levels in dBA?
Our decibel meter uses the Web Audio API AnalyserNode to process real-time microphone RMS amplitude data. It scales incoming signal voltage into dBA Sound Pressure Level (SPL) estimates from 30 dBA (quiet room) to 120+ dBA (extreme noise).
02.Is my microphone audio recorded or sent to any server?
No. 100% private and browser-based. All microphone audio data is processed strictly inside your device's local RAM memory. Zero audio buffers are saved, recorded, or transmitted.
03.What is the difference between dBA, dBFS, and SPL decibel scales?
dBFS (Decibels Full Scale) measures digital audio signal levels relative to 0 dBFS clipping. dBA (A-weighted decibels) measures acoustic Sound Pressure Level (SPL) weighted to match human ear frequency sensitivity.
04.What are safe decibel noise exposure limits according to OSHA?
OSHA mandates that 85 dBA is the threshold for 8-hour continuous exposure without hearing protection. Continuous sounds above 90–100 dBA cause permanent hearing damage, while sound levels over 120 dBA cause immediate pain.
05.Can I use this decibel meter on smartphone mobile browsers?
Yes! Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, tap 'Allow' when prompted for microphone access, and measure room noise instantly on mobile.
06.How accurate is a browser-based microphone decibel meter?
Internal device microphones provide highly accurate relative decibel readings and peak tracking. For certified ISO acoustic compliance, physical hardware calibrators are recommended.
07.What is Peak Hold and why is it useful?
Peak Hold tracks the absolute highest decibel spike recorded during your session. This helps identify sudden transient noise spikes like door slams or clap peaks.
08.How do I test my room's ambient noise floor before recording podcasts or streaming?
Leave your room silent for 5 seconds while running the meter. An ideal podcasting studio noise floor should stay under 35–40 dBA.
09.Why does my microphone decibel reading stay at zero?
Check your browser address bar permissions (click the lock icon) to verify Microphone permissions are set to 'Allow', and ensure no background app (Zoom, Teams) has locked the microphone.
10.What are typical ambient decibel levels for daily environments?
Silent bedroom (30 dBA), Quiet office (45 dBA), Normal conversation (60 dBA), Vacuum cleaner (75 dBA), Heavy traffic (85 dBA), Lawn mower (90 dBA), Rock concert (110 dBA).
